Fringe Festivals // A Movement
Established in 1947, the Fringe emerged as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, providing a platform for excluded artists. Originating with eight theatre companies on the festival’s periphery, it has since grown into the world’s largest performing arts festival, hosting over 3000 shows and attracting millions of visitors annually.
An open-access event, the Fringe welcomes artists from diverse disciplines, fostering experimentation and new talent. It celebrates creativity, diversity, and the human spirit’s drive to explore artistic frontiers. With a rich history of innovation and freedom, the Fringe has evolved into a global movement, with over 250 festivals worldwide. Explore further on the World Fringe website.
